In case you haven’t noticed, I have been offline for the past couple of months for some much needed resetting. I needed space from the online world.
So, I logged out of all my social media accounts, and I used my free time to do everything I promised myself I would do – all in the name of “getting my sh*t together” and spending time doing what I love most – getting lost in my creative studio. And it was bliss!
Whenever I feel down or in a creative rut, there is nothing that sparks my creativity more than treating myself to a morning of fabric shopping.
I have been obsessed with florals lately and I purchased tons of new fabric. I made so many cute dresses that I haven’t shared with those that follow my creative journey online. I finally game up with my holy grail dress pattern – this simple halter style, half circle skater dress – that I feel flatters my body type and I always feel so amazing when I wear them. There are no closures or zippers at all, I used a moderate stretch fabric (a lightweight scuba knit) that feels like a second skin when wearing it and people are often amazed that I made it and can’t believe the fit. I used to do a lot of full circle skirts, but half circle is my go-to now – mostly because I don’t have to worry about the wind blowing my skirt up and revealing my undergarments for all the world to see!
I recently revamped my Scarlet Aura Instagram account to be @RayleneHarveyOnline, so follow me there if you’d like to view behind-the-scenes footage of my creative endeavours and also some new posts. I haven’t been sharing much yet, because I’m busy with my sister’s baby shower – I don’t want to reveal too much about what I have been up to there, as it’s supposed to be a surprise! Let me just say this, I’ve taken my craft and DIY skills to a new level and it’s been super fun.
What are your plans for the weekend? Hubby and I are prepping for our Turkish-themed dinner party tomorrow. We’re doing the first course and we’re making lamb koftas with 3 homemade dips – tsatziki, muhammara and beetroot hummus – and garlic flatbread. I’ve never made bread before, so wish me luck!
Until next time xoxo
