I’ve been noticing the tennis skirt across the fashion bloggersphere and I’ve always wanted to try out pleats. So, I decided to challenge myself by making myself one!
It wasn’t easy, let me tell you that. I had to be strict with the measurements – I had to make sure it would fit snugly around my waist while at the same time have each pleat be evenly distributed. I also had to ensure I had enough seam allowance on the sides and zipper area. Truth be told, I didn’t get it right the first time, but I kept altering it until it fit me perfectly.
Nonetheless, I quite enjoyed working with non-stretchy fabric. It’s definitely more challenging for a beginner because fit is key. You don’t have the luxury of stretch fabrics that has leeway. I decided to do a sporty vibe for this look and I couldn’t resist but to pair my skirt with my white Converse sneakers. In an upcoming post I’m going to show you how I would style my tennis skirt when attending an evening event. I just love this skirt, and I’m going to make one in denim and in black too. Just like shoes, a girl just cannot have enough skirts!
I was interviewed on #HashtagRadio yesterday about my blog, and whilst chatting to the presenter, Riana Brink, I realized that I’ve come a long way from where I used to be! By blogging “publicly” I have opened myself up to a whole other world. I’m consciously putting myself out there, holding myself accountable for all the actions I take each day as I work toward achieving my goals. No matter what I do, I always stay true to myself. I don’t need to search on the outside for answers because deep down, I already know the answers.
