While I would like this to be a light-hearted look post, I feel like I need to touch on something that has been bothering me a lot lately.
We live in a digital world, there’s no doubt about that. We have so many devices – mobile phones, ipads, laptops, watches, and so forth – that connect us to this digital world at any moment in time, as long as there is an internet connection. There are so many social media networks and applications out there, that in order to “keep up”, we constantly have to be connected and involved, else we fall by the wayside.
“We shouldn’t allow ourselves to get so sucked into this cyber world that when we find ourselves with no internet connection that we simply forgot how to just be. We need to consciously switch off every now and again to remember that we are alive.”
This bothers me a lot. Is this really what life has become? We can’t even eat dinner or watch TV without feeling the urge to reach for our devices! Our worst nightmare about a future filled with robots has already been realized. We are the robots! The majority of our lives exist in cyberspace through these social media applications. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to get so sucked in this lucid cyber world that when we find ourselves with no internet connection that we simply forgot how to just be. We need to consciously switch off every now and again to remember that we are alive. Now that I got that off my chest, let’s move on to things that are a li’l more light-hearted – such as my outfit. I realize that I’ve been wearing a lot of black & white ensembles lately. Co-incidence, much? I think not! I recently did a massive wardrobe cull that involved me getting rid of any clothing items that do not fit in with my personal style theme, and I must say that putting outfits together has become a breeze. I own very little clothes now – I’ve become minimalist in every sense of the word, but I’ll tell you more about that journey in another post. In this ensemble I’m wearing this gorgeous satin pant from LABEL Collections. I love the fact that it has a cummerbund detail with tie, which is so on trend this year! I paired it with my black crop top from ZARA, my ivory blazer from H&M, and the new gorgeous love in my life, this YOURS leather satchel designed and produced by the beautiful Aqeelah of Fashion Breed.
